FAMILY AWARENESS TRAINING FOR CHURCHES

Please refer to the list of suggested courses below to see a range of training

areas in support of family. All have been the result of an extensive study of

family needs, the mechanics of HIV/AIDS and the human body:

 1.01  Engaged couples weekend

Love, caring, respect, sexual relations, rights, responsibilities,

equity, decision making, role models

 1.02  Married couples weekend

Couples to participate in discussion groups, personal reflection,

and counseling with a clergyman or group counselor.

 1.03  Fathers and sons

 A group of fathers and sons take part in a weekend camp and

activities that require both to work together, discussion groups,

games, camp fire, talks on a son selecting a wife, rights and

responsibilities of parents.

 1.04  Mothers and daughters

 A group of mothers and daughters take part in a weekend in a

secure area, working together on projects, games, discussion on

hopes and plans, talks on a young woman selecting a husband,

raising children, mothers and daughters encouraged to share

views on family.

1.05  Parenting

Development of a growing child, needs for growth, needs for a

child to develop an identity, intellectual growth, discipline, rights,

responsibilities, creativity, learning needs, adolescents, young

adults, values, caring for disabled, qualities of parents. 

1.06  Physiology of the body 

Body systems – blood , brain and nervous system, reproductive,

digestive, lymph, endocrine, needs of water, salts, nutrition,

oxygen, hygiene, exercise, body, mind & soul, nutrition and

water.

1.07  Physiology of HIV/AIDS

Entry of virus, replication in CD4, attack on the gut lining, bacteria

leakage, breakdown in absorption, ARV drugs, damage to cells and

tissues, mucosa cells, cervical cancer, immunity / toxicity of ARV,

liver break down, dementia, Krebs cycle, opportunistic infections.

1.08  Positive Living

Faith, hope, peace, love, family, friends, fellowship, forgiveness,

work, sleep, exercise, relax, clean water, morning sun, uncooked

fruit, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts and freedom from fear, stress,

violence, shame, blame, starvation, infection, rejection, beer, home

brew, cigarettes, marijuana and drugs.

1.09          Palliative care

Love, acceptance, positive living, normal living as much as possible,

sharing of work, reassurance to family, mood swings, depression,

denial, slow decline, early dementia, late dementia, paranoia, ARV

supplies, gut parasite drugs, washing, loss of bowel / bladder control  

in final stages and precautions to prevent family infection.

1.10  Counselling with HIV/AIDS

Pre-test and post-test counseling, look to needs before counseling,

support from other specialists incl. doctor, susu mamas and welfare,

do not tell too much too soon, reassure on what is done well, seek

to involve a parent who will support, confidentiality, discretion in

home visits, tell a little each visit, focus on  smoking, nutrition, 

boozing, hope, breast feeding of baby, listen.

CASE STUDY IN AIDS DEMENTIA

 

Dementia with HIV/AIDS is the result of damage to

the brain caused by the HIV virus and the onset of

AIDS. It can be caused directly by the entry of the

virus and gut bacteria into the brain. Type leaky gut

HIV into Google.

It can also be the result of the break-down of body

systems with loss of nutrients, water, salts and oxygen

that affects all cells including brain cells that are not

replaced in a lifetime.

It can start about the 6th year and become progressively

worse until death among those with no ARV treatment.

It can lead to delirium, dementia, hallucinations, paranoia,

violence and depression (Woodruff).

Sufferers will not be affected if successfully taking ARV

drugs. There are drugs that can penetrate the brain. ARV

may bring the water-salt balance back towards normal.

With slow repair of the gut lining, there will be a return to

absorption of nutrients, salts and water. Cells will be

nourished again including brain cells.

The world does not know long term effectiveness of
antiretroviral drugs. But it is probable that life will be

prolonged with ARV taken in conjunction with Positive

Living that includes balanced nutrition with clean water,

fruit and vegetables and no smoking or drinking alcohol.

DAMON

This is a report taken from a book “April Fool’s Day” by

Bryce Courtenay to record the death from HIV/AIDS of

his son Damon in about 1993. He was infected with HIV

from transfusions as a haemophiliac. This report is written

with deepest respect to his family.

This is a person whose blood does not clot and when he
bled, he lost much blood. At early times, blood transfusions
were infected with HIV and the patient became HIV positive.

This was early times, not much known about HIV/AIDS.

It was not known by the Courtenay family that their son
was becoming demented in the final stages of AIDS.

There are certain characteristics AIDS demented people

can have. We can say that people in dementia can show

similar traits whether suffering from stroke or Alzheimer’s

Disease.

My father died at 53 years after a decade of strokes. He
was demented at the end.

As their illness proceeds they become angry, resentful,
blaming, violent, paranoid, afraid, suffering delusions
and hallucinations. They can go between extremes of
happiness and despair. They can hate family members
as if jealous that the family is healthy and they are ill.

Damon Courtenay had grand delusions in final AIDS. He

believed that he was the commander of the army in charge

of disciplined services. He did not make himself popular
at the local police station.

He believed HIV was developed by Central Intelligence
Agency to kill the world population. As a famous doctor,
he had discovered a cure and believed the CIA agents
seeking to kill him.

Afraid to go to hospital for treatment, he believed that
doctors and nurses were CIA agents waiting to kill him.

The pain of haemophilia caused him to smoke marijuana to
ease the pain and that would have contributed to his decline
in health in final AIDS.


He died in 1993 surrounded by loving family.

BODY PHYSIOLOGY AND HIV/AIDS

I will try to explain this concept with the simplicity and clarity
of a Biology teacher. I will start at the beginning so that you can
see the big picture and understand the flow of body processes.
Please keep for future reference.

We have to understand 3 body systems – blood, lymphatic and
digestive systems.

Blood System consists of fluid pushed around the blood system
by pressure from the heart.

The system carries nutrients, enzymes, oxygen, water and salts
around the blood to be taken up by cells and metabolized in the
cell mitochondria in a process called the Kreb’s cycle. Ultimate
body elixir is made in the form of adenosine triphosphate. In
final AIDS, this process ceases.

Waste is carried from the cells through the blood to be deposited
in the capillaries of the small intestine and carried through the wall
of the small intestine into the gut to pass out with faeces.

This is important as we see the path of the HIV particles traveling
with the waste through the walls of the small intestine. It just floats.

Lymph System consists of lymphatic vessels that travel from
our feet upwards in two channels filled with white fluid called lymph.
Lymph carries white blood cells that consist of CD4, CD8, dendritic
cells and others. Lymph vessels enter the blood ystem by connection
to the large veins that enter on each side of the heart.

The CD4 cells have other names depending on where the cells are
found. These may be T-cells named because these are made in the
thymus. Others are called mucosa cells. The white blood cells
have functions of identifying and memorizing foreign particles,
herding and engulfing.

The lymph system also consists of lymph nodes that exist along
the lymph vessels like strings of grapes. Those on the surface can
be felt in the groin, neck and underarms when there is infection.

Lymph looks like water. We see lymph in blisters. When Jesus
was speared, water came out of his side. This was probably the
effect on the lymph and blood systems of hanging on the cross.
Lymph and blood are pumped by the action of moving muscles
which are paralyzed by crucifixion. The lymph system has no
heart.

The lymph system includes the thymus, spleen and long bones, all
of which can be hiding places or reservoirs for the HIV virus. Red
and white blood cells are manufactured in the marrow of the long
bones and can be damaged there by HIV.

Digestive System consists of the mouth, oesophagus, stomach,
duodenum, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus. The
virus enters the digestive system through the small intestine
as it passes out with waste.

But it is more than that. The digestive system from the mouth is
covered with a thin skin or mucosa. Put your finger in your mouth
and feel the thin skin on the inner cheeks. We have mucosa
down the length of the digestive tract ending in the mucosa
of the anus. Mucosa cells are susceptible to HIV in mouth and

anus.

In mucosa are CD4 cells that are part of the skin. These protect
the body from viruses or germs that enter through the mouth,
intestine, genitals and anus. There are free floating CD4 cells in
the blood and lymph.

The greatest accumulation of bacteria and germs is in genitals, anus
and small intestine. So these are the sites of the greatest accumulation
of CD4 cells and become the greatest sites of concentration of
HIV particles that replicate in and destroy the CD4 cells of the
mucosal lining.

The CD4 cells in semen have already been destroyed with semen full
of HIV that have replicated in the CD4 of the semen. We have to
understand that HIV does not attack. The CD4 engulfs the HIV
to destroy it but the CD4 is destroyed instead.

Within a fortnight of infection with HIV, there is a mass movement of
the virus from the lymph system to the blood system and to the gut

There is still enough gut lining to allow some nutrition to pass into the
body. The main point of absorption is the epithelial lining that can
still operate.

The epithelial cells are destroyed mainly in gay men when they lick

The break-down of the gut lining causes massive damage to body
systems over a number of years. Water and salts are not absorbed
causing a change in the water salt balance. This affects metabolism
and respiration. Cells, tissues, lungs and blood cease to function
properly.

If the sufferer begins ARV treatment as early as possible and the
drugs are acceptable to the body, the virus will be killed in the blood
but not in hiding places.

This will stop the virus from further penetrating the gut lining and
allows the gut to mend. There are ARV drugs that impair
the operation of cell mitochondria that are the furnaces of cells.
The Krebs Cycle is still impaired. Metabolism slows and ceases.
The non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor group has such

an effect. HIV will affect cell mitochindria too.

But the gut and other body tissues can only mend with ARV if
the sufferer commences to rebuild the body with what had been
lost. There must be a strong diet of protein, glucose, salts,
vitamins, enzymes and water. Body systems start to return
almost to normal. The news is better than scientists had first
thought.
