A PANDEMIC OF ABUSE OF YOUNG WOMEN AND GIRLS

The editorial of The National describe the relationship of family child molesters to the children in the family as being toxic. Parents have to protect their children from toxic family men.

It is very distressful to read the ongoing reports in the PNG newspapers of young girls and women being sexually abused by fathers, grandfathers, step fathers, uncles, brothers, neighbours and strangers.

The pattern is basically the same. A young girl is playing in the yard, studying in the house or sleeping in her bed at 2am when the family molester arrives with violence and rapes the young girl once or twice.

He may have an excuse of taking her to buy lollies or just putting his hand over her mouth and forcing her into a bedroom. He invariably threatens to kill her if she tells family what has happened.

There have been instances of young girls threatened with being stabbed by her grand-father or step-father. What kind of stupid dog-brain is he?

The mother finds out and takes the girl to the medical clinic when she is diagnosed as having been raped. The mother then reports the matter to the police and the accused is arrested. Mothers have been known to report their own father to the police.

The man never thinks of consequences of destroying the trust of family in his role as caretaker. There has been a spate of 74 year old men and 18 year old boys.

What happens when old men go to prison for 15 years and released at 89 years of age? Who will be there to take care of them?  Did the victim now a young woman married ever come to visit? Some will men die in prison before release.

I could not bear the thought of spending my final days looking through cell bars and living with a prison of violent men.

Some offenders have been known to be punished by being forced to eat their own faeces. They have been stripped of the right to live for 5 minutes of dubious pleasure many years before in raping a girl they should have protected.

Perhaps the cause of the pandemic is the existence of cell phone pornography. I know a person who says that every boy in her grade 8 class has a daily survey of cell phone pornography.

Old men lift their spirits with a monthly trip to the chemist for a packet of viagra. Now they only need some young girl to try out their temporary erection. No viagra in prison.
