POLLUTION OF SEPIK AND MAGADUS SQUARE

sepik feeds the yellow fin tuna - family positive living - blogger

Sep 4, 2016 — Aug 12, 2012 - That is existence of a major yellow fin tuna breeding  .

There appears not to be an overall picture of the problems of mining pollution in the deep sea off Wewak.

The sea off Wewak and south of New Ireland is the breeding ground of the Yellow Fin Tuna that moves around the Pacific in anti-clockwise direction up the coast of USA, down the coast of China to breed off Wewak. It is known as the Magadus Square.

The young tuna come into the coast to feed off the plant and sea life at the mouths of Sepik and Ramu Rivers. So what happens when the Sepik becomes barren the result of pollution from the proposed Frieda River mine?

The loss of Yellow Fin tun breeding is a major ecological tragedy in the world.
