SEPIK FEEDS THE YELLOW FIN TUNA

Like every other ecological environment around the world, the Sepik River is a natural habitat for all forms of anamal species including fish, snakes, birds and crocodiles.

The Sepik River is incredibly huge and fathomlessly deep with torrents under the currents that have whirled ferociously since the beginning of time.

Prawns of the Sepik are quite huge, chunky and commercially viable but this fresh water delight remains unexploited because huge fishing expeditions are barred.

Comment: There is a far bigger issue here and that is the deep sea mining in the Bismarck Sea in the area of the breeding grounds of the yellow fin tuna.

These fish swim the rim of the Pacific up the coast of America and down the coast of China to come back to breed in the Magadus Square in the sea off the Sepik and Ramu Rivers.

The young of the yellow fin tuna are fed by the massive nutrients that are swept down to the sea by the Sepik and Ramu Rivers. The estuaries of these rivers are the breeding places for a range of marine life including prawns. This area is unique in the world.
