FUNERAL NOTICES IN THE PAPUA NEW GUINEA MEDIA

I take morbid interest in opening the funeral pages in the Post Courier and The National. The numbers of people dying at early age seems to have increased alarmingly.

I am 74 years old and seem to have outlived most people appearing in the funeral notices. Most were born in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The funeral notice may advise that they died in hospital after a short illness. By the photo, many are obese.

There seems to be an increase in pastors, doctors, lawyers and senior officers in Government. We are reading medical reports on lifestyle illnesses that may be responsible - renal failure, diabetes 2, hypertension, cervical cancer, lung cancer, stroke, heart attack and HIV/AIDS.

There will be an increase in COV -19 as the months go by. People are announcing that they reject the vaccinations. Time will tell. There will be a rush if those vaccinated go on living.

There is great importance in all of us following a healthy diet of clean water, fruit and vegetables.

We need to reduce our smoking of cigarettes and drinking booze and home brew. The key requirement is to strengthen the immune system.

It is important for us all to exercise daily and to avoid eating food processed in the factory or the food bar in the street.

Much of this food is cooked with fat and cooking oil laden with trans fat. It is so easy to eat garden fresh food bought in the market or grown in the garden.
