Several years ago, I
attended a family crusade at Jack Pidik Park in Port Moresby at the invitation of Pastor Simon
Vetali, the family affairs pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He has been a supporter of Positive Living for all these
years, having been my mentor on the spiritual side of family. I did not realize
that I was invited as one of the honoured guests.
I sat down the back
with my 11 year old daughter Lisa until seen by Pastor Vetali. He came and
escorted us to one of the seats of the honoured guests at the front.
The Bible says it is
better to sit in a lower seat and be lifted to a higher seat than sit in a
higher seat and be taken to a lower seat.
During the night, a
family came on the stage. There was a husband, wife and about 8 children
ranging from a baby to a 17 year old boy.
Family members stood and talked one
at a time about their responsibilities. The microphone went from the father to
the mother and then on to the older children.
Not one family member talked about
their rights as these were unspoken and taken for granted in a Christian
family.
When I address a class of Personal Development students
from grades 10-11 and talk about family, I always remember sitting in the seat
of honour at the Seventh Day Adventist crusade at Jack Pidik Park some 8-10
years ago.
I will always regard
Pr. Simon Vetali as my friend. He strongly supports our Positive Living
crusade. It is based on the family focus of the SDA church and the message of
the church on nutrition.
Family and faith are
relevant in modern society. No errors here paedophiles. May God forgive you.
