This is a report for the new generation of readers who have come online in the last 5 years.
There was a report in a medical magazine some years ago of an experiment with HIV sufferers on antiretroviral (ARV) drugs.
There was a theory that the person could take the drugs for a month and then pause for a month before starting again. This was to go on and on.
But the experiment failed when all the participants died. There is much to be learned from this. ARV drugs are to be taken daily without break.
The family must help the sufferer to obtain new supplies from the hospital or care centre at least a week before the supplies run out. This is crucially important for people living in rural areas far from the supplier.
We must feel compassion for HIV positive and TB positive refugees struggling into Europe. They will have no chance to obtain new supplies and will die on the refugee trail.
Many will be afraid to declare their status for fear of being denied entry to European nations.
