DECRIMINALIZE/LEGALIZE SEX WORKERS

There is now a proposal in Papua New Guinea supported by Dame Carol Kidu, Sir Peter Barter, Michael Kirby, Dr Mick Toole, Bob Brown and Rod Mitchell to decriminalize sex work as part of an overall plan to decriminalize gay and lesbian relations.

There are many questions that will arise if the plan goes ahead:

(a) Will the age of consent apply for boys and girls?
(b) Will clients be charged with carnal knowledge for underage sex?
(c) Will sex workers /clients be deemed not to commit adultery?
(d) Does sex work become a valid career option for young people?
(e) Will Guidance teachers include sex work as a career option?
(f) Will businesses set up brothels/houses pamuk in cities and towns?
(g) Will tour boats carry sex workers for the pleasure of tourists?
(h) Will hotels have to allow guests to bring sex workers to rooms?
(i) Will the numbers of sex workers expand?
(j) Will the legislation block sex workers from family?
(k) Will the numbers of tourists rise or fall?
(l) Will sex tours to the Sepik and Trobriands become popular?
