There is a report in the media based on a letter to the Department for Community Development from Fred Martens, a pilot arrested by the Australian Federal Police and gaoled by the Cairns Supreme Court in 2006 on a Sex Tourism charge.
He was released in 2009 after evidence was produced that the 14 year old plaintiff had made a false statement.
Martens was denied justice in so many ways in the process of the Crown administering a complaint between Australia and Papua New Guinea.
His ex-wife had come forward to testify after 3 years that the young girl had made a false statement. Martens was released from gaol.
He is talking of corruption in the Department for Community Development in denying him access and custody of his 6 and 8 year old children.
As a person who has sought custody of two children, there is only praise for the welfare officers. They were nothing but understanding and gentle. Friendships remain.
The time line in the letter published in the media brings only confusion.
He was gaoled in 2006. He met a son in Cairns now 5 years old who was born in 2007. Was he conceived to a woman in Cairns? Did Martens fly out of his cell at night like a spirit man?
His former partner was said to have abducted his other children now aged 6 and 8 years old. She is not the biological mother. Did the biological mother die or give the children up?
When he was gaoled in 2006, the children were just born and 2 years old respectively.
They were taken to the village by his former partner. What else could she do? Where is the biological mother? The village will not give them back.
Now there is the claim of corruption at the hands of the Department for Community Development.
The former partner has attended welfare meetings in Lae. Now the Department wants to meet the biological mother.
The children are under the age of consent. They have 4 and 6 years to go to be allowed in law to choose their parent with whom they will live. So where is the biological mother?
They can do so at the age of 12 years.The Department is following correct procedure. No corruption.
Martens also has children in Mareeba in North Queensland. He says two children in Morobe Province are imprisoned in the village against their will.
They were babies when they went to the village. Steady there old chap.
I am reminded of the expatriate who built those cement houses in the highlands that looked like giant fairy mushrooms.
He took his kids to Britain without his PNG wife.
He sought custody from the British Courts on the basis that the extended family of his daughters were cannibals. His kids were in moral and physical danger if they went back. Custody granted. Good trick.
Martens should be seeking custody in Court not criticizing the Welfare Officers. If he is honest, they are right behind him. Does he have birth certificates of his children? Who is the biological mother?
Why does he not collect stamps or rare coins like other old men? Where are all the biological mothers? How did he get the kids out of the country? Did the biological mothers give written permission to welfare?
It is all very strange. Martens has many children but no biological mothers. When he was gaoled the two small children were babies. How was it they were separated from the biological mother, the younger at birth?
In the Post Courier 16 May 2012, we read that these children are being held in the village against their will. He foolishly claims that deprivation of liberty is a criminal act.
How did they end up without their biological mother? Rumour has it that she is still alive and crying for her children.
Did Martens fly his older kids to Mareeba? Did they have passports and permission from their biological mothers? Apart from all the issues of his imprisonment, he sounds like a con-man and bully.
