TEENAGE GIRLS AT RISK

The National 18 June 2012

AIDS Coordinator for West Sepik Province has reminded us that many young girls are obtaining money outside the family by seeking sex with men for payment.

Parents know that needs of girls are quite considerable from sprays, pads, powders, knickers, shoes, money and clothes.

She said that there is a high HIV/AIDS prevalence among females aged 15 to 24 years.

It is the opposite for males in the same age group.

This may put light on awareness of trafficking for girls.

Older men who may not be too old are worried about a wife being HIV positive.

3 Apr 2012 – They watch as they grow up to an age young girls are old enough for sex.

So he gives support to a young girl and family in the hope she does not need to go out looking for money.

He can marry her later, knowing she may not be infected. There is Melanesian logic to this.

Other men may just seek sex with a virgin not infected with HIV. Please click:
