Colonization of Australia was as cruel as any mass slaughter of indigenous people on the planet. Aborigines like African slaves had no souls and could be slaughtered like wild dogs. They were shot on sight for trespass on settlers' land and killing farm animals on "terra nullius".
Tribes were betrayed en masse in Tasmania, put on an island in Bass Strait and drifted to extinction. Aborigines were poisoned by the owner of Chernside manor in Corio near Melbourne when given large amounts of flour laced with poison.
John Batman had bought the land of Melbourne from aborigines who signed his treaty. They would have had no idea of what was happening. Selling land ?? Did they have an aboriginal real estate agent to handle the transaction?

We kill rabbits with poison. We attract them with trails of carrots and then lace the carrots with 1080 poison. No rabbits or aborigines come back for more. Ask the owner of Chernside Manor.
We recall the massacre of aboriginal men in the Northern Territory by police in 1926 accused of killing a white man. They were rounded up, shot and burned on a pyre in the bush.
Then there was the Kaisenik massacre of innocent villagers by Australian miners at Edie Creek in New Guinea in 1926 as a punitive raid for killing in-coming miners along the Black Cat Track from Salamaua.
We recall the stolen generation in the 1930s of mixed race children taken from tribal families to be raised in missions. In the long run, there were undoubtedly benefits for the children to live in white society.
But at the time, families grieved at losing their children. We see many aborigines today speaking to the media with perfect English and an educated vocabulary.

The massacre of early inhabitants has occurred in every age and in all parts of the world over thousands of years. There was mass slaughter across Europe and Asia by Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun, Alexander the Great and Hannibal.
In recent times there was genocide at the hands of Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini in Ethiopia, Idi Amin and the killers of Moslems in Bosnia-Herzekovenia and Myanmar.
There are no days in the world to commemorate national genocide except the Holocaust Day mourned only by Jews.
Charles Darwin wrote a report on the killing of indigenous population in Argentina in the 1800s while passing through in the ship the Beagle. All villagers were killed by the Spanish invaders except the good looking young women to be taken as wives.
There are no other days in the world that mourn invasion that killed the local inhabitants. Nothing is to be gained by annual national breast beating. The best way is to go forward with respect for all races in the nation.
That may be starting to happen in Australia. At the moment many young aboriginals look forward only to their unemployment cheque and six packs of beer. Young aborigines used to sniff petrol. But where would young aborigines find employment in the barren outback??.
Australia for all its faults is seeking in recent years to lift the living standards of Aboriginal people despite the aboriginal unemployment, child abuse, drug taking and suicide. Most people live in the northern outstations.
No company is going to set up business to provide employment for aborigines. That would be a recipe for bankrupcy. There would be the basic problem of lack of infrastructure on which to base a business venture.
Besides, the Australian Government talks of settling refugees in the drought stricken interior.
Let us keep Australia Day as 26 January or perhaps change the name to Australian Unity Day. That would make Australia unique in the world. The extreme right would oppose that. Heil Hitler.
