GIRLS NOT ALWAYS TO BLAME

We have to have some compassion for young girls at school when they receive no money from parents for basic necessities. The problem is worse for young female students in rural boarding schools when they do not see family from one month to the next.

STUDENT GIRLS WITH MOBILE PHONES

One young woman once told of her problems at a church boarding school in the highlands. She had no money whatever from one term to the next. Her parents lived in a village and had no money to spare.

She said that she used to wash last at night and would go from shower cubicle to cubicle, scraping the soap from the floor to use for bathing and washing clothes.

It would take little imagination to work out how some young girls earn money on which to live. They only have to find a man who will give them a mobile phone.

But young boys in boarding school will face the same basic problems. They do not have the same capacity to raise money as the young girls do.
