Otherwise called “Operation Blame the Blackfellas”
People of this country may not appreciate the key role that AIDS Holistics played in the National HIV/AIDS response from earlier times.
They may not remember the announcement made by the AusAID gays and lesbians in about 2003-4 that “Operation Last Chance” had begun.
The objective was to give the PNG people the last chance to start working with the AusAID advisors in stopping the AIDS pandemic. Great trick.
The implication was that the campaign was not working and it was all the fault of the blackfellas.
It could have been called “Operation Blame the Blackfellas” or “Operation Con John” (Howard that is – Prime Minister of Australia)
This was an attempt by AusAID advisors to push the blame on to others that the campaign was not working.
Obviously questions were being asked by the Australian Government on the effectiveness of the campaign up to that time.
Perhaps the future of the National HIV/AIDS Support Project (NHASP) was being reconsidered.
The Australian non-support and corrupt role ended within two years. Advisors withdrew to the Australian High Commission to maintain their bullying tactics from behind a wall.
With the announcement of “Operation Last Chance” the response of AIDS Holistics was to unleash scorn and place the blame squarely on the AusAID advisors and their anti-family focus.
Operation Last Chance was never heard of again. It was front page news in The National daily newspaper for a whole day!
Contrary to misinformation of the Australian advisors that AIDS Holistics was hated by PNG people, the fact remains that we have enjoyed a high level of respect.
Friends would say that this was a fight that could only be between Australians.
No person from the Prime Minister down would see fit to blast the Australian corruption as AIDS Holistics has done and to name names.
