Note: AIDS Dementia is avoided if the sufferer is following ART medication. In Papua New Guinea there are still people who are not being treated with ART and will suffer dementia as their immune system drops below 200 cells/microliter.
When the report above says "the first sign of AIDS", this means that HIV has passed and the infection is moving to the final stage leading to death. AIDS is the final stage as the immune system starts to crash.
LInda suffered dementia which was reflected in fear of evil spirits coming to kill her. At the point of her deep dementia, I lost a friend who could not relate to other people. Free ART was not yet available.
Her family did not understand her withdrawal as she did not let me tell them she was HIV positive. They blamed me for mistreating her. But she suffered hallucinations and delusions particularly at night.
Cox had a great time telling lies to destroy our Positive Living message. It is not good to be telling lies to a person suffering dementia. At the end, Linda could not tell real from fantasy. Cox would come while I was at work.
Looking back now, I can see that Positive Living did its job for Linda in slowing down the crash of her immune system. But free ART was still 2 years away.
She lived for 11 1/2 years after probable infection. I went to the market daily and brought home fruit and vegetables. She brought fruit and vegetables from her farm too.
