An aneurysm occurs when an artery's wall weakens and causes an abnormally large bulge. This bulge can rupture and cause internal bleeding.
My mother died of an aneurysm in the neck that caused a rupture of the artery and loss of blood into the neck and brain. She died within 2 days at the age of 61 years. It may have had something to do with high blood pressure.
The artery develops a bulge like a faulty bicycle tube.
