DEATHS THROUGH LIFESTYLE

Papua New Guinea Post Courier 13 May 2011

Statistics show that 60% of deaths globally are a result of
chronic lifestyle diseases and 80% occur in low and middle
income countries like PNG according to the vice-president
of the PNG Nurses Association Carmen Yakopa.

He said that the country faced a massive increase in levels
of death and disability from chronic diseases.

He urged nurses to act as role models for families
and communities.

Chronic diseases included diabetes, hypertension, heart
diseases, respiratory diseases, depression and cancer.

He said that lifestyle diseases were becoming like a double
tsunami.

Dr Dakulala urged nurses to give garden food to those who
are sick.

Footnote: We all know that fruit, vegetables, grains and nuts
are the key sources of nutrition. These should be fresh and ripe.
Vegetables like carrots, cucumbers, beetroot, lettuce, beans
and peas can be eaten raw. Vegetables can best be steamed.

AIDS Holistics urges people living with HIV/AIDS to strengthen
their health by avoiding processed food and eating mainly garden
food. We have emphasized role models for family. This seems to
be bearing fruit in many directions.

It is all the key to POSITIVE LIVING.
