There is extreme sensitivity about dementia. Gay people and
those with HIV/AIDS do not want this information to leak out.
They do not want it known that they may one day become
demented.
But that is unfair to parents and family who do not understand
why their loved one who has had the virus 6 years has slowly
become morose, unhappy, paranoid, accusing, violent and
wandering with delusions and hallucinations.

There are about 27,000 people in the country living with HIV/AIDS
and less than 6,000 on antiretroviral (ARV) drugs. That means a large
majority of people living with the virus may live less than 10 years and
suffer dementia in the last 3 years.
The treatment with ARV is still a waiting game. The medical profession
is undoubtedly watching people who have been HIV positive for 20 or

care about family.
