GENDER VIOLENCE WORKSHOP

A week long training workshop on gender based violence was
held last week at Alexishafen in Madang in Papua New Guinea.

The training hosted by the National Catholic Family Life service.
The workshop was aimed at training coordinators of Family Life
Service in each diocese, particularly from Southern and Momase
regions.

Based on Melanesian studies, gender based violence is inevitable
in the workplace, streets and everywhere. We show the different
forms of violence and its effects.

Co-facilitator Maggie Turwei said that the training was to promote
Christian values, gender equality and marriage enrichment. Her
dream is to see more women in all areas of life.

National Director for Catholic Family Life Sister Mary Antheda
said that coordinators were trained to educate families on gender
based violence.

Sr Mary said parents must be good role models for their children.
