We read in the media that the new Government policy of free education for students is flawed by a lack of resources including teachers, classrooms, dormitories and teaching resources.
One problem could be temporarily solved if retired teachers are brought back into service. There must be thousands of retired teachers in the country.
A perception is that teachers educated in the 1960s and 1970s would have a higher professsional skill and better grasp of the basics of literacy and numeracy. They might be better equipped to use Mastery Learning that is the basis of Outcome Based Education.
To pass a legislation allowing retired teachers to be employed may well be a part solution to the massive problems that face education.
