FUN WITH MASTERY LEARNING

Children learn to write when the teacher helps them to use tools of writing. They learn to use nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, phrases and clauses to make their writing interesting. There is so much that can be taught in a school that does not even have a library.

One way is to help students build up rich sentences from basic sentences. These can be done from the black board. They find that writing is interesting.

Children should be given the opportunity to make words more exciting and descriptive.

House

The old wooden house
The house built by my grandfather.

Dog

The young village dog.
The sick, old dog.
The barking, snarling watch dog.
The friendly, licking and jumping family dog.

Many students will sit in class and contribute nothing. They may be the ones who leave in grade 8. But they should be encouraged to contribute. Those students who are to go on to grade 12 will find this work very interesting and useful in helping their writing skill. The enrichment can start in community school.

The old man walked slowly down the road to the village.

The children ran down the road, calling to the kitten lost the night before.

The young woman walked with fear down the dark and winding road.

The old lady walked with pain down the road, her leg giving agony at every step.

Slowly and carefully, the man walked down the road looking for his wallet.

Now it is your turn to try.
