WIVES AND MOTHERS AS AIDS COUNSELLORS

It is time for foreign HIV/AIDS activists to practise what they preach. The first change is to include married family women and men as AIDS advisors and counsellors.

Too many foreign advisors are non-family lesbians who select those young national women willing to follow the rights, rights and gender equity agenda of foreign lesbians.

Married women would have a more practical and grass-roots understanding of family, parenting, marriage, men, rights and responsibilities.

They would not perpetuate the misinformation about all men being violent and all abuse and family break-down being the fault of men.

Foreign advisors emphasize no stigma or discrimination in the community. Yet they discriminate almost completely against married women, family and men. All men are violent. All women and children are abused. All heterosexuals are homophobic.

Even grade 9 clear thinking students could demolish these opinions as unjustified generalizations without evidence.

The Government allows them to do give out a false message. This country will never advance if strengthening of families is in the hands of foreign lesbians. Wait until one of their selected national women takes one or more of the 22 seats and becomes Minister for Community Development.

A senior trainer in the national HIV/AIDS response Ms Haro recently stated to the media that gender equity is the key to the national HIV/AIDS response. Not true. Family is the key.

That is why the national response has no credibility among many married women. They do not believe the message. They see that their husband is a lovely man not a violent abuser. They do not believe that foreign lesbians are working to strengthen family.
