NO VOTES FOR WOMEN BY WOMEN

In the recent election in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, two women stood. Both failed to be elected. This means that women did not vote for them, despite separate booths for men and women. This is a very common problem in this country. Women do not vote for women.

It may be women candidates were not considered as suitable. Or women think that the women candidates are being arrogant and above their station in life. Or that the women voters are jealous and want to take the women candidates down.

That is why there is pressure for 22 reserved seats. If women stood for election against men, other women will not vote for them. The women voters will vote for men. That is reality that all gender equality in the world will not change. Women have themselves to blame.
