SEX EDUCATION FOR COUPLES

The National 22 September 2011 P.7

A new training programme for married couples could drastically reduce HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in Papua New Guinea.

Population Services International (PSI) told a health seminar that marital relationship training provides new knowledge and skills that married couples use to maintain healthy sexual relationships. decrease the gender based violence and reduce extra-marital partners. This will bring about changes in marriages and families.

Deputy Director of PSI Leah Hoffman said that evaluation had found that men's perception of HIV increased after training while women's ability to show control in a relationship towards HIV prevention also increased.
